UK Police Forces and Partners Unite to Address Equine Crime

The National Equine Priority Delivery Group (PDG) is a proactive group consisting of representatives from police force areas around the UK and lead equine organisations.

The group meet quarterly and reviews all aspects of equine crime, including welfare and road safety, reviewing incidents, and sharing best practices and intelligence.

As well as supporting police officers and investigators around the country the PDG also work to support horse owners and those in the equine industry to help prevent and detect crime.

From this, the PDG has set up Operation Gallop and is launching a new website to provide information and advice for both police officers and members of the public on equine-related matters, including crime prevention and a news blog with incidents and news items from around the UK.

operationgallop.org.uk has a separate police section that includes a training film on key areas of equine crime and other information to assist them in their work.

Operation Gallop also has social media pages on Facebook and X (previously known as Twitter).

National Equine lead for the PDG and Operation Gallop, Chief Inspector Korine Bishop from Hampshire Police said “Operation Gallop is a true partnership with agencies working together to tackle all aspects of equine crime and welfare.  We thank NEWC for their support in funding the new website and the many people and organisations that have helped us set this up to help all those that have horses or are linked to them in some way.”

You can now find resources, guidance and information from Gallop on the Yard Owner Hub, alongside other guidance and information on a new dedicated section for the Safety and Security of your yard.
