Castle Farm Livery & Cross Country

Castle Farm Livery & Cross Country was established in 1995, our friendly establishment is more than a livery yard and cross country course, rather, it’s a way of life. With our passion for horses and genuine interest in our clients, we work together as a family, and we work with our clients as a team. Here at Castle Farm Livery & Cross Country we offer all the elements that you could wish for to enjoy your horses; whether you’re a novice or experienced rider, Castle Farm Livery & Cross Country offers a friendly and welcoming ‘horsey’ place to be.

Castle Farm is a family run equestrian centre on a 56 acre farm, situated on the edge of the beautiful Cotswolds. Established in 1995 in the village of Wickwar, South Gloucestershire, Castle Farm offers easy access from the M4 & M5 whilst enjoying beautiful countryside all around us.

At Castle Farm Livery & Cross Country we offer tailor made livery packages to suit your needs, from grass livery to full competition livery. Whether you are looking for DIY Livery for a child’s pony, or full competition livery, we can tailor a package just for you. Use of floodlit arena, show jumps, cross country course and all year turnout is standard for all liveries, plus excellent hacking in the Gloucestershire countryside.

Facilities include a 25 x 45 floodlit arena with an excellent sand and rubber chip surface, one of the few arenas usable during the freezing winters. Most other arenas have been frozen solid for weeks, ours is fine, even early in the morning! It provides a well cushioned, yet supportive surface for all disciplines and is regularly maintained. It has 2 large training mirrors which we find invaluable and it’s floodlit, so you can exercise your horse any time of the day or night!

Our fabulous XC course was originally built by Badminton course builders ‘Willis Brothers’. It is approximately 1 ¾ miles long and offers a full range of fences ranging From 1′ to 3’6″ high. Fences include hedge, table, bench, ditch, tiger trap, corner and two water sections. The route flows beautifully around the 56 acre farm, up hill, down dale and through the Little Avon River. It is a very picturesque course with plenty of trees and hedging, which helps to ‘channel the horses’ and focus their attention on the fences. The rolling hills are also great for increasing fitness levels of horses and anyone accompanying on foot!

We also have a showjumping paddock with a course of show jumps including fillers, gate and water tray. They can also be used in the main arena all year round.

The yard offers large and medium-size stables, with auto waterers, secure tack room, horse shower and wash-down point. There is also a hay barn & feed storage, plus a crew room with a kitchen and lavatory. Lorry & car park.

Whether you are just starting out or an experienced rider, at Castle Farm Livery & Cross Country we offer a wide range of training opportunities to meet your needs. With our on-site instructors you will receive the very best instruction and support to achieve your goals. We also offer NPTC Diploma courses in Work-Based Horse Care. Yard Owner Anna Howes qualified as a BHSAI in 1991 and offer sympathetic and structured riding tuition for all ages and abilities. Additionally, I am a qualified NVQ tutor and assessor and an Accredited Professional Coach. At Castle Farm we offer a full schooling service, general exercise/hacking, lunging and preparation for sale. If you would like your horse competed or require assistance at competitions this is also available.

Looking to hire an arena or cross country course; be it for personal practice, lessons or to hold an Event? We hire our facilities, particularly the XC course for groups or individuals. The course is great for riders and horses at any level, whether its ponies on lead rein having fun, or a more advanced combination doing some fine tuning. Please see the website for details.

We have been at castle farm for over 8 years and have thoroughly enjoyed our time here, both daughters learnt to ride in the school and around the farm and cross country course. It’s very peaceful to ride around the farm and always people to ride with should you want to. Great facilities including Arena, lunge pen, jumps. Staff always happy and helpful and have all be a great help over the years with my 4 horses that have come and gone!

We have been to many yards and by far Castle has been the most friendly and welcoming both with staff and other liveries. Our pony settled in so nicely and the staff are amazing, nothing is too much and will cater for individual horses needs. Great booking system for the arena so everyone knows when it is free. Our pony is a nervous hacker by himself and there is always someone to hack with. Great hacking locally and looking forward to the summer season with the amazing cross country course. Would 100% recommend
